Thanks, my wife was concerned that I was insulting much of our family. I was concerned that my real meaning wasn't conveyed properly, part of my illiterat-ness! I hope no one is insulted by this article. It was written to give sports fan a different view. :D

Tony, I'm a huge sports fan, but I don't have any problem with what you have written. All you are really saying is that it's not for you and that's fine. As a long time sports fan, I have scaled back my viewing, simply because there is more to life and I spend plenty of time with it as it is. Plus, years of listening to and watching Raider fans make asses of themselves made me realize that an obsession with sports can be unhealthy.

Watching TV last night I see (in my peripheral vision) that crap ad that takes up 1/3 of the screen (you know bottom part of the screen) and I ignore it. Then I hear this beeping noise. Sounds like an alarm going off upstairs. I think it is strange (since it was 2am). Then I hear it again. After about the 3rd time I realize it is coming from the TV and it is being played each time the bull sh*t ad is popping up at the bottom of the screen. HA! I still didn't look at the ad!

Thanks. I think it is easy, and really cheap if you consider what it used to cost radio stations (well I guess it still does cost a lot for them). ;o)

apple = style over substance, BMW get away with it and so did Bang & Olufsen in the 70's. If people want to squander money let them, but when they try and make you feel inferior to them for not having their apple toys then I start to get riled. Apple will move on to some new fad before long, something originally designed by a different company at Palo Alto and then pretend they were there first. Ha ha ha ... mac douches of the world unite.

Last night I was watching a show as it was being broadcast. I just couldn't STAND to sit through the commercials! So instead of flipping back and forth I just hit the record button on the DVR and then found something else to watch for 15 or 20 minutes. You know flipping around. Then I went back to the show I was watching and skipped all the DAMN! commercials. Double fast forward then hit the 7 second rewind when I see the show is back on! This can't be good news for the companies selling the content, the companies showing the content. Sooner or later everything will have to be pay per view, or purchase like we do with DVD/HD discs.

I often bust out laughing at commercials at other peoples homes and they are like "I can't believe you haven't seen that, it's on all the time!". Makes me want to watch some commercials just to be back in the loop. Almost.

That can be very frustrating. Sometimes guys don't like doing things that they know they are "supposed" to do. At least that is the way I was when I was younger. Hell even now come to think of it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I wrote this article in the hopes for a better understanding. That's the great thing about expressing and receiving opinions. I still fail to understand why the tattoos would be for you. What does it do for you? Perhaps this is too personal a question, or answer to reveal openly. I seem to be dumb about somethings, but I'm always curious. Anyone that doesn't discipline their child the best way they see fit as a parent is a fool.

I agree. I am in fact a tattooed woman. For the most part, you can't see my tattoos. I believe there is a time and place for that. I didn't get my tattoos to make a statement or impress someone, my tattoos are for and always have been for me. It make me no less a woman, daughter, up standing citizen or great person. I'm a firm believer in not judging a book by its cover. When you start doing that you miss out on some of the best ppl that anyone could have asked for.

Now language...yes, I use very colorful language. No I wasn't raised that way. It was drilled into my head at a young age " girls just don't do that, it's un-lady like." Yet at family functions when all of the female members were together, there was a few choice words used. Somehow over the years woman have begun to speak our minds without censoring our words. It happens. It's more a society issue. We have dropped the ball on a lot if things, like making it ok to wear our pants down past our butts and girls dressing like hookers. It's a change in our way of living, just like growing up we were discipline, now a days, you mention spanking a child you are labeled a bad parent.

Yes exactly. It's the equal rights for women, but does that mean that women must become men? Adam Carollo has a book called "In 50 years we'll All be Women" I have not read the book and I'm just speaking to the title. If men are slowly becoming women, I think women are slowly becoming men! I am fine with women being equal. I try to treat my wife that way and in many ways she is certainly more important to the family than I am, but as a man I know my idenity. Personally I think this whole thing is a manipulation of women to make it easier for men to have casual sex with them. That's a whole nuther blog post though!

I'm with you. It seems there are a few things at play here.

One is this supposed advancement in Women's liberation, which in my view has actually gone backward with the promotion of the every day use of foul language and general tarting up. I think womens organizations have sold out due to politics. It seems if the political side is the correct one, it's not to be questioned. I speak mostly about the encouraging of sexual exploitation.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono had a song, "Woman Is The Nigger Of The World" in which he decried how we (men) "make her paint her face and dance." That was the original idea of women's lib. But then it was decided somehow that as long as it was her idea to be or act like a pig, no problem. Nevermind that it promotes discrimination against those women who aren't considered "attractive," or that it encourages young men to treat women with less respect, like calling them hos and such. That seems cool and titillating and all, that is, unless these women want to grow up at some point and marry respectful men. It also dirties the pool of potential nice guys for the nice girls to marry.

The new generations fall into the same trap as those who preceded them, in thinking that everything they do is better, or more enlightened. Guys will always be guys because of their hormones, and "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free" isn't just some quaint, old world term. It's reality.

Then there's the exploitation of youth by political and business interests. They use sex, and shock, and all things naughty to draw in their audience under the guise that they are being all grown up and liberated, when they're really just using it to control them into following a political agenda or buy products.

And of course, there's the foolishness of the youth themselves buying into the whole thing, including the tattoos. Personally, I don't like them either, especially when a young person with beautiful skin is deliberately marring themselves. One day they'll wish they still had that youthful glow. And as you suggest, it's mostly about going along with the crowd. I never fell into that trap. Young people rebel against controlling parents by letting their peers control them instead. Duhhh. Congratulations, genius! Maybe the first few got tats to be rebellious, but the majority do it because they want to fit in. They're just going along with the crowd, looking for that same approval, as you said.

Finally, getting back to the original topic of cursing. It's the same story, but they're ruining the value of expletives by overusing them. I believe they should be saved for special occasions, like when you're truly pissed off, or when it's REALLY funny. If you use them all the time, they're almost never funny because they're already expected. It takes higher intelligence to pick and choose those times.

That's it. Enjoyed your post Tony. This has been a blog in a blog courtesy of TrappDog!

Great comment, thanks. Truth be told this is just something that I came up with one evening while I was talking to my wife and two teen age girls. I did take aspects of my life and interweave into the story but my Dad very seldom cursed and if he did it was very rare.

Ii can understand how anyone could make that mistake, that the Chapstick was intended to be used on the apperture at the other end of your alimentary canal. Based on the expression, "that chaps my ass" is not the best word choice. Your mistake could have been avoided if the verb "chafe" was used in the expression instead.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what the larger implication of all this is, except that it continues our movement down the road to where can lose all our communications in one shot. Some years ago money issues forced me to go with the cable company's phone service, but I regretted the loss of the old phone line which still worked if you lost power in the house. Honestly, I don't want to be around when the day comes that everything is lost at once. I remember when the power grid went down on the east coast and people were having problems using their cell phones due to all the traffic. Just imagine the future when everything we have including our cars are controlled from the same place. Antenna TV is already gone. Imagine if radio becomes obsolete and we can't even get information with a battery operated radio. Not good.

This is an outrage. You're just trying to get us up in space to get rid of us. We know what this all translates into: More bacon for Tony. Well, I for one am not fooled. You'll never separate me from my bacon! I'm staying right here! But I wouldn't mind a nuclear power source for my home.

Both tit and tat are archaic words meaning 'a light blow'. The entire expression thus means 'a blow for a blow', like 'an eye for an eye'. Both words were used as verbs, too: a popular song of the late sixteenth century had a refrain, "Come tit me, come tat me,/Come throw a kiss at me." nnThese words are probably of imitative origin, with a vowel variation found in other words expressing striking such as tip and tap or pit-a-pat. The tit is not related to other tit words, such as the ones (each of independent origin) meaning 'a small bird' (e.g. "titmouse"), 'a breast', or the first element of "tit-bit" (in America usually euphemized to "tid-bit," but not related to the 'breast' word). nnThe phrase tit for tat is first found in the sixteenth century. It is probably a variant of tip for tap, of similar origin but found a century earlier. The tip in this earlier phrase is the same word as in the baseball expression "a foul tip."nnref: http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19960729

The think that got to me about doing that was just how really easy things are. You hear, or see people do amazing things but it isn't really that hard to understand how. I learned later the hard part is doing it everyday with consistency.

That was the good thing about the old days, when you could get creative with every day electronic devices. nnThe first "multi-track recording" I ever did was on a Sears stereo! It had a turntable, cassette, 8-track, and radio, and all these extra ins and outs in the back. It also had right and left mic inputs in front. What I did was first I recorded the drums through the cassette's left input, then I simultaneously fed that into one side of the 8 track while I recorded bass onto the other, then I spliced radio shack wires together so that both outputs from the 8 track went into one side of the cassette while I recorded vocal and guitar onto the other! nnI wonder if I still have any of those recordings... It was like the old "fake" stereo records, with drums and bass on one side and the guitar and vocal on the other. That was so much fun. You feel like genius!
